Private Guided Tour of the Louvre Museum

The Highlights of the Permanent Collections at the Louvre Museum

Discover one of the most extraordinary art collections in the world. This Private Louvre Tour is designed to guide you through essential masterpieces of the museum, while offering a deeper, more personal understanding of their meaning, context and enduring legacy. Along the way, we explore the refined beauty of classical antiquity, the grandeur of Renaissance painting, and the theatrical splendour of French royal collections.

In addition to the enigmatic Mona Lisa, the powerful Winged Victory of Samothrace, the elegant Venus de Milo, we will also take the time to step into the opulence of the Napoleon III Apartments, where history unfolds through decorative art, architecture and imperial ambition.

  • As the largest art museum in the world, the Louvre Museum houses over 35,000 works on display across its permanent collections. In the span of a few hours, it would be neither realistic nor meaningful to attempt to see everything.

Instead, our tour offers a carefully curated selection of around 15 major masterpieces, providing a refined snapshot of the rich artistic and cultural heritage of different civilisations, from Antiquity to the 19th century.

The exact itinerary may vary depending on crowd conditions and gallery access on the day, but the essence remains: a coherent, elegant, fully-guided and commented arty journey through the highlights that define the Louvre.

Among the masterpieces we often encounter:

    • Great Sphinx of Tanis

    • Athena of Velletri

    • Venus de Milo

    • Diana of Versailles

    • Winged Victory of Samothrace

    • Virgin of the Rocks

    • Mona Lisa

    • The Wedding at Cana

    • Coronation of Napoleon

    • The Raft of the Medusa

    • Liberty Leading the People

If an artwork is at the Louvre, that means it is a masterpiece. Along the way, we will also comment on additional works of interest and draw connections between artistic movements, historical contexts and the evolving ideals of beauty and power.

  • Our meeting point is usually in front of Le Nemours, 2 à 7 Galerie de Nemours, 2 Place Colette, 75001 Paris.

We will walk to the Louvre together, go through the security checks, take a comfort break and leave anything we do not need during our tour in the lockers. This may take 10-30 minutes depending on the affluence and any other exceptional events (strikes/late openings) on the day, which is beyond our control.

We will always do our best to adapt, remain flexible and make the most of the waiting time to share additional information. Our guided tour will officially begin as soon as we’re all ready and comfortable.

Our experience usually ends inside the museum, in case you wish to freshen up at one of the eateries on the premises before continuing to explore other collections. All exit is final.

  • The Louvre Museum is open from 9am to 6pm on Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The museum closes at 9pm on Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday is the only day that the museum is closed to public.

Public holidays: the Louvre is closed on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December. It remains open on all other public holidays unless they fall on a Tuesday, the museum’s day of closure.

Rather than following a fixed script, each tour is bespoke and shaped as a living narrative, guided by (discreet theatrical) storytelling that brings the collections vividly to life.

Our Private Guided Tour to the Louvre Museum blends multiple layers of interpretation:

  • Artistic insight to help us understand composition, technique and symbolism

  • Architectural context, revealing the transformation of the different exhibition sections & rooms

  • Historical anecdotes from royal patronage to revolutionary upheavals

  • Restoration stories, uncovering how masterpieces have been preserved, rediscovered or reinterpreted over time

  • Touches of pop culture, drawing bridges between past and present, from cinema to contemporary references

This allows artworks to resonate beyond its surface. Above all, this is a private, intimate experience, shaped around your pace and interests.
